Working with salamanders.

Boy they are slippery fellows aren't they? Joining Dr. JJ Apodaca in the field was a fantastic experience, as both a scientist and filmmaker. Growing up in Montana and spending most of my life in the Rocky Mountains I never imagined salamanders reaching the size (Hellbenders!) and diversity that we see here in Southern Appalachia. I can't wait to head back out with Dr. Apodaca and his team his team this spring to keep filming. In the meantime, I might just keep watching this amazing hellbender video by Freshwater Illustrated:
